Influence of a Single Slow-Paced Breathing Session on Cardiac Vagal Activity in Athletes

چکیده

Slow-paced breathing (SPB) is a well-known relaxation technique in athletes, which has also the potential to help optimize addiction treatments based on its effects autonomic nervous system. Specifically, these directly impact cardiac vagal activity (CVA), of vagus nerve regulating functioning. The long-term SPB interventions CVA have already received some attention; however, single session still require further investigation. Consequently, aim this study was investigate during, immediately after, and 60 min after session. Twenty-four athletes were involved within-subject design, with two conditions: slow-paced (at 6 cycles per minute) control condition watching an emotionally neutral TV documentary while at spontaneous rate. derived from heart rate variability measurement indexed via root mean square successive differences, RMSSD. Results showed that RMSSD measured during significantly higher than when before SPB, right SPB. No changes observed condition. Findings regarding concomitant are line previous literature. return baseline suggests only transitory. Given been linked decreased cravings addictions, future research should extent may be effective coping craving attacks acute basis.

A Pilot Study on the Effects of Slow Paced Breathing on Current Food Craving

Heart rate variability biofeedback (HRV-BF) involves slow paced breathing (approximately six breaths per minute), thereby maximizing low-frequent heart rate oscillations and baroreflex gain. Mounting evidence suggests that HRV-BF promotes symptom reductions in a variety of physical and mental disorders. It may also positively affect eating behavior by reducing food cravings. The aim of the curr...

Positive emotion reduces dyspnea during slow paced breathing.

Slow breathing is used to induce cardiovascular resonance, a state associated with health benefits, but it can also increase tidal volume and associated dyspnea (respiratory discomfort). Dyspnea may be decreased by induced positive affect. In this study, 71 subjects (36 men, M = 20 years) breathed at 6 breaths per min. In condition one, subjects paced their breathing by inhaling and exhaling as...

critical period effects in foreign language learning:the influence of maturational state on the acquisition of reading, writing, and grammar in english as a foreign language

since the 1960s the age effects on learning both first and second language have been explored by many linguists and applied linguists (e.g lennerberg, 1967; schachter, 1996; long, 1990) and the existence of critical period for language acquisition was found to be a common ground of all these studies. in spite of some common findings, some issues about the impacts of age on acquiring a second or...

The effects of slow-paced versus mechanically assisted breathing on autonomic function in fibromyalgia patients

Paced breathing has shown efficacy in fibromyalgia (FM), but the mechanisms associated with symptom change are largely unknown. We investigated whether changes in respiratory rate (RR) alone resulted in autonomic changes during normal, paced, and mechanically assisted breathing in untrained FM patients and controls. Participants included 20 FM patients and 14 controls matched for age and body m...
